Model Folio
Recently I worked with a male model to create a fresh portfolio on the beaches near my home in Hove. Living right on the coast, I’m lucky to have Brighton Beach, Hove Lagoon, Saltdean and the South Downs all on my doorstep — and they make the perfect backdrop for folio shoots.
As a Brighton photographer, I love how versatile the local beaches are. The mix of sea, sky, cliffs and urban textures gives us so much variety in a short space of time. For models and actors building their folio, it means we can capture different looks in just one session.
Why Brighton & Hove Beaches Are Perfect for Portfolio Photography
Brighton and Hove are famous for their energy and style, but the coastline is also one of the best outdoor photography studios you’ll find. Here’s why I love shooting folios here:
Variety of backdrops – From Brighton’s iconic seafront and pier to Hove’s quieter beaches, we can go from colourful and vibrant to calm and natural in one shoot.
Natural light – Beaches give us soft, flattering light, especially at sunrise and sunset, which is ideal for model portfolio photography.

The Shoot
For this male model folio session, we kept the styling clean and versatile — outfits that could work for both fashion agencies and commercial castings. We started on the hill at Saltdean, then moved down to the shoreline for more dramatic shots against the water. The changing light gave us a mix of bright, energetic images and moodier, atmospheric portraits.
One of the best things about working outdoors is that no two shoots are ever the same. The tide, sky and light constantly shift, which means the images always feel unique.

A portfolio isn’t just about good pictures — it’s about showing range, personality and confidence. During shoots I give direction to help models relax, move naturally, and find their strongest angles.
